MCCC to Host the Greater Norristown Art League’s Diamond Anniversary Exhibit Sept. 14-30 GNAL Artist James McFarlane to hold gallery talk Sept. 18 Sept. 6, 2016, Blue Bell, Pa.—Montgomery County Community College is hosting the 75th Anniversary Exhibition of the Greater Norristown Art League (GNAL) from Sept. 14 through Sept. 30 at the College’s Fine Arts Center Gallery, Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. The “Meet the Artists” opening reception will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. with awards at 6 p.m. The curator is artist and GNAL member Susannah Hart Thomer, and the sponsor is North Penn Art of Lansdale. “We are excited to showcase the work of our talented members at this special exhibit at Montgomery County Community College’s Fine Arts Gallery, and we invite the community to come and share in our celebration of the arts,” says Thomer, who has been a member of GNAL for more than 35 years. In addition to the exhibit, GNAL artist James McFarlane, AWS, will host a special gallery “Walk ’n Talk” on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. A nationally and internationally recognized artist and popular teacher, McFarlane is President Emeritus of the American Watercolor Society (AWS). He is also a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Water Color Society and the National Society of Painters of Casein and Acrylics. Approximately 60 to 70 pieces of art, representing GNAL’s membership of more than 450 professional and non-professional artists, will be displayed through a diversity of media, including oils, watercolors, pastels, sculpture, charcoal, mixed media and computer generated art. The juror of the show, Karen Kappe Nugent, is an art instructor at MCCC and a regionally known artist who has exhibited her landscape and still life paintings at area museums and galleries. Her work also is included in private and corporate collections. She studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Barnes Foundation and Studio Rilievo. She graduated from the University of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Founded in 1941 and chartered in 1957, the GNAL is a non-profit organization engaged in the promotion and teaching of the arts and is based in the Old Norriton Schoolhouse located at 800 W. Germantown Pike, East Norriton. GNAL offers a variety of day and evening classes for all ages, workshops in all media, exhibition opportunities, life classes, Saturday classes and summer camps for children.
